£286,000 expansion for Alconbury sports club
The Alconbury Sports and Social Club in Cambridgeshire will be expanded following a £286,000 award from the Football Foundation.
The grant will allow the Alconbury Recreation Field Charity to acquire additional land and develop a third generation multi-use games area and additional grass pitches on the site. The club’s existing changing rooms will also be upgraded to include new facilities for people with disabilities.
Bob Berrington, chair of trustees for the Alconbury Recreation Field Charity, said: “This new all-weather floodlit development provides a fantastic opportunity for football in the Alconburys and surrounding area.
"It will enable the charity to meet a popular demand from children, young people and adults to participate using our expanded modern facilities at the Alconbury Sports and Social Club. It will also make a major contribution to health and exercise in the locality and we welcome enquiries from all those interested in using the facility.”
“I am delighted that Football Foundation investment is opening up access to sport in the Alconburys and surrounding district and encourage other organisations in the region to apply to us,” said Football Foundation chief executive Paul Thorogood.
