£2.6m for Glasgow community facilities
Glasgow City Council (GCC) has confirmed £2.6m of funding to help sustain the existence and promote community management of sports and cultural facilities across the city.
A £2.13m capital investment fund and a £500,000 social enterprise fund is now available for Glasgow's 32 community facilities, which are currently managed by Glasgow Life.
The social enterprise fund will be administered over 2011-12 and 2012-13 and will support local groups and individuals looking to promote increased use of the facilities.
Meanwhile, a backlog in maintenance costing £2.13m has been identified by GCC and will now be carried out as a matter of priority through the capital investment fund.
GCC's executive member for the Commonwealth Games Archie Graham said: "This new funding will help to deliver a sustainable future for these facilities and the people who use them by upgrading the buildings and the programme of activities taking place inside."
