£200,000 grant for new Eureka! gallery development in Halifax
Image: The existing gallery will shut in November
Monaco-based Stavros Niarchos Foundation has announced a £200,000 grant towards the creation of a new £2.9m gallery at Eureka! The National Children's Museum in Halifax.
The latest award means the attraction has now raised £2.4m towards the Me and My Body project, which is being primarily funded through a £1.45m grant from the Wellcome Trust.
It is expected work will begin on the new gallery in November, with the existing gallery due to close for the duration of the scheme. However, the museum will remain open.
Eureka! projects director Tudor Gwynn said: "[The new gallery] will excite, captivate and inspire a whole new generation of children to learn about the amazing human body.
"After 20 years and over 5.5 million visitors, it comes as no surprise that this hugely popular gallery is showing its age which is why this £3m redevelopment is such an important project."
