citizenM eyes up British expansion
Dutch-based hotel company citizenM, which is set to launch its third property in Glasgow later this year, is looking to expand further into Britain with additional development sites in London, Edinburgh and Manchester.
The company, which unveiled its first 230-bedroom hotel at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport last summer, hopes to open a total of 20 new properties in the next five years across Europe. In line with its efficient hotel design strategy, citizenM is looking to develop hotels with between 100-300 rooms, each offering around 25-28sq m (269-301sq ft) of floorspace in a bid to provide affordable luxury.
Major European cities are also being targeted as part of the company's expansion plans, with cities including Paris, France, Milan, Italy, and Hamburg, Germany, also being considered for new developments. Following its plans for European expansion, citizenM – headed by Rattan Chadha, a former partner of Oberoi International Hotels and Resorts – then hopes to move into the American, Asian and Australian markets.
