Work starts on Paisley leisure centre scheme
Renfrewshire Council has announced that the main phase of work on an £8.5m renovation of the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley has now commenced, following an initial phase.
The complex - operated by Renfrewshire Leisure (RLL) - will remain open throughout the programme of improvements, which will include an extension of the fitness gym. A flexible hall space will be provided for youth activities, while the current fitness area is to be transformed into a spa offering a range of holistic health and fitness treatments.
Elsewhere, the scheme will include an updated swimming pool with modern water features, while a new day care facility for adults with learning disabilities is also proposed. The £8.5m refurbishment forms part of Renfrewshire Council's wider £103m investment in the Building Beater Communities programme.
Eileen McCartin, deputy leader of the council, said: "By creating a community sports hub, we are also taking the opportunity to invest in other facilities to benefit the community. "Locating facilities in one place will also help break down barriers between adults with learning disabilities and the wider community."
