The Woodland Trust (WT) and the National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty have signed a joint accord to cement the two organisations' ongoing partnership.
It is hoped the new accord will strengthen work already being carried out - specifically with regards to the creation and management of "appropriately sited" new woodlands.
One example is the planting of 176,000 native trees at the Ministry of Defence's Warcop training area, part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Cumbria.
WT chief executive Sue Holden said: "By formally setting out our future plans, I hope we can build on this to deliver even greater benefits for people and wildlife."
