Winnipeg stadium set for 2012 completion
A new 33,500-seat venue currently under construction at the University of Manitoba (UM) in Winnipeg, Canada, remains on course to be completed next year.
Designed by Raymond SC Wan, the stadium is to be able to increase its capacity to 40,000 for major occasions such as the Grey Cup and other international events and concerts.
The multi-million dollar venue will provide a new home for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and the Manitoba Bisons, the representative team of UM.
A 4,000sq ft (372sq m) feature retail store will be created as part of the stadium, which will feature a sunken bowl design with the playing field 25ft (7.6m) below the main concourse.
Two 30ft x 110ft (9.1m x 33.5m) video boards will be installed behind each end of the pitch and a further 250 video monitors will be placed at locations throughout the stadium.
In July, project manager Mike Clynes confirmed the development was "slightly ahead" of schedule and Blue Bombers staff will move into an administration building in March 2012.
