Whitstable bridge plans set to be unveiled
Plans for two new bridges as part of a proposed pedestrian and cycle route in Whitstable, Kent, are set to be put on display at a public exhibition on 12 and 13 March.
The new bridges - crossing Old Bridge Road and Teynham Road - are set to form part of a route linking the existing Crab and Winkle Way at All Saints Close and the seafront. The Crab and Winkle Line Trust and sustainable transport charity Sustrans are working in partnership on the route, as well as Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council.
Sustrans regional director Simon Pratt said: "This will be the first time people can come and see the new bridge plans so we hope they take this opportunity to come and talk to the project team and give us their feedback. "These bridges are for Whitstable so it's important for the local people to see the proposed designs and have a say."
Plans for the new route form part of a wider, multi-million pound scheme to develop a new greenway and promenade along a 12-mile (19.3km) stretch of coastline. The scheme will see the existing Crab and Winkle Way between Whitstable and Canterbury extended, while the Viking Coastal Trail will be completed and a new Oyster Bay Trail created between Whitstable and Reculver.
