White Cliffs of Dover are nation’s favourite coastline
The White Cliffs of Dover have been voted Britain’s favourite coastline in a new poll conducted by the National Trust.
The Vote for the Coast competition covered England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The White Cliffs in Kent took 22 per cent of the vote, followed by the The Gower Peninsula in south Wales with 13 per cent. East Head in West Sussex came third, Soar Mill Cove in South Devon was fourth and Northumberland’s Dunstanburgh Castle was fifth.
Simon Ovenden, property manager of the White Cliffs of Dover, said: “We are delighted to have won the competition. The White Cliffs of Dover have been an inspiration for centuries and are recognised by millions worldwide. They have a unique role as one of the most identifiable and enduring symbols of our island heritage.” Details: www.nationaltrust.org.uk
