West Berkshire Museum architects named
Manchester-based architects Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams (BFAW) have been appointed to lead the redevelopment of the West Berkshire Museum in Newbury.
Margate, Kent-based Houghton Kneale Design (HKD) have also been selected to form part of the project team and will be responsible for the exhibition and interpretation design. The appointments follow a successful first round bid for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), with work to be undertaken during the rest of 2011.
BFAW and HKD's work will also provide a "major component" for future funding bids. It is hoped the museum will reopen to the public in early 2014. Neal Charlton, project architect and associate at BFAW, said: "The buildings of West Berkshire Museum are unique and sensitive; our biggest challenge will be to insert new design making it appropriate and exciting at the same time."
