Welsh Assembly announces heritage grants
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones has announced that 13 historic buildings across Wales are set to receive a share of more than £600,000 to fund restoration work.
The grants - which range between nearly £4,500 and £140,000 - have been unveiled in order to mark the 25th anniversary of Cadw, the Welsh Assembly Government's historic environment agency. Tal Y Braich, a 19th century smallholder's cottage in Rhosgadfan, near Caernarfon, Gwynedd, will receive £52,500 to help fund re-roofing work and the re-instatement of windows.
The largest share of the funding has been awardedd to Adulam Baptist Church near Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, which has received £140,000 for the re-roofing and re-rending of the property, as well as repairs to the windows. Plas Coch on Anglesey, a 16th century gentry house, has been awarded £100,000 for restoration work, while the Grade II*-listed Llanyrafon Manor near Cwmbran has been handed a £120,000 grant.
Jones said: "Over the last 25 years Cadw has granted some £70m for historic buildings and ancient monuments the length and breadth of Wales."
