WBC appoints Sea Change design team
Liverpool-based BCA Landscapes has been appointed from a shortlist of five design teams to deliver Wyre Borough Council's (WBC) £1.6m Sea Change scheme.
A stretch of coastline between Fleetwood and Cleveleys, Lancashire, is set to be transformed as part of the scheme, which will include a coastal trail and improvements to Fleetwood's Marine Gardens. WBC, which is also proposing an architectural structure at Rossall Point to act as a beacon and visitor destination along the trail, selected BCA Landscapes following a round of interviews with shortlisted firms.
More than 50 applicants were whittled down to the five shortlisted entries in April - Sweden-based White Arkitekter; McChesney Architects; Grit and Pearl; and LDA Design comprising the other four. WBC economy portfolio holder Barry Birch said: "Throughout the process, [BCA Landscapes] has shown a determination to engage with the people of Cleveleys and Fleetwood, which will give residents a real sense of ownership."
Garry Payne, the council's director of planning and regeneration, added: "We are ultimately looking for a scheme that enhances the existing natural environment of Wyre's coastline rather than works against it." Image: Marine Hall, Fleetwood
