USS Iowa, the historic US battleship which spent more than 50 years in service, is to embark on its final voyage to Los Angeles before opening as a new floating museum.
Built in 1940, the 887ft (270m)-long vessel is currently located in Richmond and was due to commence its journey to its new home at Berth 87, the Port of Los Angeles, on 20 May.
However, the San Jose Mercury Newshas reported that rough seas off the California coast had prevented USS Iowa from starting on its transit tow to Los Angeles.
The museum is due to open in July as a "living ship", providing guests with a range of "at sea experiences" through audio and visual backgrounds and interactive exhibits.
Among the key exhibits will be a history of the USS Iowa itself; the history of Allied and Axis battleships; and an exploration of the US Navy's fleet of battleships.
A spokesperson said: "The museum will highlight the contributions of this battleship and its crew at critical moments in American history, including World War II, the Korean War and the Cold War.
"Educational programs at the museum will offer lessons in history, leadership, team-building, character development and community service."
