Tottenham Hotspur cautious over MDC plans
Haringey Council has invited London mayor Boris Johnson to discuss the possible creation of a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) in the N17 area of Tottenham.
It would provide London's second MDC after the Olympic Park and aims to help transform one of the capital's most deprived areas and encourage economic growth. However, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (THFC) told the mayor that plans for the MDC may not be enough to keep the club in the area and that it was a "first step".
In January, THFC chair Daniel Levy said the Premier League club was looking to move from its White Hart Lane home after increased costs meant redevelopment plans were 'no longer viable'. Levy said: "Whilst we look forward to playing our part in the MDC, we firmly believe the inclusion of greater fiscal incentives, additional to those mentioned in the announcement, is needed.
"I should also add that, in respect of our own new stadium plans, we continue to review our position and to investigate all possible options."
