TopGolf seeks expansion opportunities
Baydrive Group, the operator of TopGolf, is to look for new sites where it can launch its golfing facilities.
TopGolf currently operates two practice facilities in Watford and Chigwell and plans to roll out centres featuring 55 driving bays in a two-storey range, golf retail, tuition, space for a café/bar and corporate entertainment facilities.
The company also plans to roll out a smaller version of the game, called TopChip.
TopGolf is a ‘fun, fast moving golf game’ and players hit golf balls containing tiny microchips from the driving bays onto a 250m outfield.
The microchip then relays the distance and accuracy of each shot to the player’s screen in each bay.
A recent TopGolf survey has shown that, of the 150,000 players who have participated at either site so far, half are new to golf and 20 per cent are children.
Chief executive Stephen Lewis, said: “We are looking at smaller areas with a high footfall, such as retail sites and leisure parks. We have prototypes and are looking for our first venue.”
Baydrive is backed by Henderson Private Capital and has the rights to develop TopGolf in both the UK and Ireland. Details: www.topgolf.co.uk
