Three stars for leisure services in Suffolk's coastal district
Suffolk Coastal District Council's leisure services have been described as 'excellent, and will probably improve', according to a report issued by the Government's Audit Commission. The inspection was carried out the Government's best value regime, which places a duty on all councils to deliver the most economic, efficient and effective services possible. Suffolk's Coastal District Council's strengths, as detailed by the Audit Commission, included the friendliness and responsiveness of staff at leisure centres, the quality and repair of facilities and the performance as set against other district councils. Tony Osmanski, the Council's assistant director (Leisure and Tourism), who led the review, said there had been a great team effort: Not only to meet the Best Value criteria but to ensure that the time and energy invested creates long term benefits. The Best Value Inspection Services was established by the 1999 Local Government Act to provide the public with an independent assessment of whether best value is being achieved by their local council.
