The Courtauld Gallery reports record attendances
The Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House, London, UK, has reported record attendance figures for the year.
The gallery, owned by The Courtauld Institute of Art, welcomed 167,638 visitors this year – an increase of 56 per cent.
August saw the highest number of visitors, 27,184, which is the highest since the gallery moved to Somerset House in 1990.
Deborah Swallow, Marït Rausing director at the institute, said: “The enthusiasm for the Courtauld’s work is all around us – from the number of outstanding students, the increase in alumni returning to take part in events, our largest audience ever for The Courtauld Gallery and the generosity of both old and new supporters.
“The incredible participation and widespread support reflect not only the esteem in which The Courtauld is held but also confirms our belief in the value of the visual arts to individuals and society.”
