Talent campaign for triathlon
Mazda is sponsoring an initiative from the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) to bring talented triathletes through the ranks and improve the medal haul in elite competitions.
The BTF is keen to capitalise on the fact that triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the UK: there are currently 500 triathlon events in the UK each year and there are a number of British athletes who are regularly successful on the world stage.
Launched last week, the Regional Identification programme, divides the country into nine regions. The best performers in the 14 to 17 age range will be selected to join newly founded regional academies and receive training from world class athletic coaches.
According to BTF chief executive, Norman Brook, the programme will build on the momentum of Britain’s triathlon success over the last few years.
He said: “It is our responsibility to protect our current standing in the sport and ensure there is sufficient young talent coming through to increase our chances of global success in the major games.”
