Taj hotels completes renovation of Indian palace
India-based hotel and resort operator, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, has completed the renovation of the Usha Kiran Palace in the fort city of Gwalior, the capital of the Madhya Pradesh region.
The 120-year-old palace was originally built to host the King and Queen of England and was the former residence of Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia. Following an extensive restoration it has now opened as the 35-room Usha Kiran Palace Hotel.
Set in nine acres of landscaped gardens, the property boasts 15 superior rooms and 20 deluxe rooms including two suites.
It also offers a spa, swimming pool, library, billiards room and dining facilities including the Garden Café and the multi-cuisine restaurant and lounge bar. There are also three, 150-capacity banquet rooms and lawns capable of hosting 1,500 people.
Taj has previously carried out multi-million pound renovations of heritage properties including the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, Rambagh Palace in Jaipur and the 100-year-old Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Details: www.tajhotels.com
