Superlambananas set for Liverpool return
Liverpool City Council (LCC) has confirmed that eight Superlambanana sculptures have been commissioned to provide a permanent art legacy from the 2008 European Capital of Culture.
The new 'Eight for 08' statues will be installed in front of the Cunard and Liver Buildings on The Strand before moving onto a site at the new-look Lime Street railway station in late April. Each of the sculptures is based on a range of themes that will reflect the character of Liverpool and its residents, including music, Liverpool firsts, architecture and comedy.
LCC leader Warren Bradley said: "We wanted to create an artistic legacy of what Liverpool enjoyed from being European Capital of Culture, something that captured the spirit of the year and the magic of the amazing creativity and Go Superlambananas fits the bill perfectly." Sally Ann Wilkinson, director of Wild In Art - responsible for delivering the Go Superlambananas scheme, added: "Go Superlambananas captured the spirit of Liverpool - it brought many people together and was a celebration of the city's sense of fun and community participation."
