Student to develop copper heritage e-trail
A PhD student is to be funded by Swansea University to create a new heritage e-trail for the Lower Swansea Valley - including the site of the city's former Hafod Copperworks.
The university is working in partnership with Swansea Council on plans for the regeneration of the former industrial site, with the PhD studentship due to last three years. The successful applicant to the programme will examine how digital technology can be used to represent and interpret the history of the area for academics and the general public.
A joint feasibility study will now be carried out by Swansea University and Swansea Council following the signing of a memorandum of understanding. Gareth Sullivan, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: "We've begun discussions with Swansea University about exploring regeneration opportunities for the Hafod Copperworks site.
"This proposed doctorate research will help bring history back to life and will supplement all we hope to achieve in this historically important part of the city."
