Sports minister slams football governance
Football has been described as the "worst-governed sport in this country" by the minister for sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson.
Speaking in response to Parliamentary questions on the matter, Robertson said that "action is needed" to tackle issues surrounding the regulation of the domestic game. An investigation into how the sport is governed in the UK has already been launched by the culture, media and sport select committee
Robertson said: "Football governance issues need attention and action, which I believe is precisely why the select committee has responded to the anxiety throughout the House and announced its investigation." The criticism followed questions on the matter from Jessica Lee and Philip Hollobone, MPs for Erewash and Kettering respectively, who raised issues affecting lower level clubs in their constituencies.
