Sporting Equals celebrates 10th anniversary
Sporting Equals has launched a new campaign focusing on race, culture and religion across sport and physical activity to mark its 10-year anniversary.
The aim of the organisation is to promote more ethnic diversity within sport and physical activity. This includes increasing participation, volunteers and staff from black and minority ethnic backgrounds working in sports organisations. Arun Kang, chief executive of Sporting Equals, said: "The links between race and religion are so close that we cannot ignore the issues and barriers of religious discrimination.
"A recent study completed this year by the University College London found that there were no signs that the gap between white and ethnic minority groups participating in sport and exercise has decreased. "We will be working strategically with our partners to identify and tackle barriers related to race, ethnicity and religion in relation to sport and physical activity. Our role is firmly about advising and supporting organisations through developing models and sharing knowledge to implement equality practices."
