Spa journeys introduced at Grand Velas
A range of seven new treatment packages have launched at the Grand Velas Spa Resort Riviera Maya in Mexico.
The 'journey' packages include treatments based upon Mayan mysticism in the Journey Through Native Mexico and a Travels through India, which features ayurvedic-inspired therapies. There are also nature, aromatherapy, and inner-journey themed packages.
The Grand Velas spa opened in July 2009 and was inspired by the jungle and natural water pools of the Yucatan Peninsula. The 89,000sq ft (8,268sq m) facility was designed by Mexican architects Ricardo Elias and Alexis Elias of EliasElias AR, with consultancy from Diane Mestre of Pro-Spa.
The US$15m (E9.9m, £9m) facility is set below ground level and has a 40 treatment rooms. Guests enter on the spa's top floor, at the Balinese-influenced lobby, before going below for their treatments.
Influenced by the stones, plants and streams specific to the Riviera Maya landscape, other features include a clay room, a circular glass-tile lined steamroom and an Ice Room. Details: rivieramaya.grandvelas.com
