Silverstone revamp brief approved
The British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) is one step closer to revamping the famous motor racing circuit, following approval by South Northamptonshire Council of the recently submitted development brief.
Spencer Canning, development director at Silverstone, said: “This is an important step towards creating a framework for the delivery of a world-class venue for motorsport, education and high-technology development.”
The brief outlined plans for a new pit and paddock complex alongside a manufacturer test centre, as part of a wider mixed-use development comprising an extreme sport and leisure complex, two hotels, a university campus and a Welcome Centre, as well as new homes and a business park.
Local authorities, the South East of England Development Agency, the East Midlands Development Agency, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire County Councils and the government contributed towards the brief.
Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits, added: “We can now complete the preparation of a planning application to transform Silverstone into a world leading centre for business, leisure and technology..”
A planning application for the new Pit and Paddock facility will be submitted in the spring.
