Sheffield United to invest in stadium and health clubs
Sheffield United football Club (SUFC) is raising £10.7m through a share offer in order to acquire a health club and to improve its Bramall Lane ground.
The club announced it had agreed to acquire the Thames Club health and fitness centre in Staines, Middlesex, for £4m as part of its strategy to develop a leisure property portfolio and to roll out a chain of health clubs.
Facilities at the Thames Club include an 85 station fitness club, a 20m swimming pool, sauna, a 300-capacity conference centre and a sports bar.
Kevin McCabe, Chair, said: “The acquisition will be a significant step forward for Sheffield United and advance further our strategy of building a property and leisure services business around the football club.”
SUFC recently opened a health club, called Impact, at its academy in Sheffield and announced that Thames Club will become the flagship site of the new brand. Details: www.sufc.co.uk
