Seahaven Disability Games event launch
Saturday 20 August 2011 saw the launch of the Seahaven Disability Games for the residents of Searchlight and their invited teams.
Sponsored by Sainsbury's Newhaven Harbour and sports trust Wave Leisure the event will ran between 10am and 4pm, at the Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford.
The day offered participants the chance to pit themselves against each other in four sporting disciplines - Boccia, Darts, Kurling and wheelchair slalom. The event ran on a league system with the winners of each group being declared the overall winners of the day.
Martin Surgey, Chairman of Searchlight, which launched the event, said: "We are delighted that these games are able to go ahead with the support of Sainsbury's and Wave Leisure. Being able to launch the Seahaven Disability Games for the area means that not only are we able to offer our residents the opportunity to compete in a variety of events, but we are also able to invite local teams to challenge themselves and us."
Angus Murray, Store Manager for Sainsbury's Newhaven Harbour said: "As a part of our year long commitment to Searchlight as our local charity, we are pleased to be able to support an initiative that brings the local community together with the work that Searchlight do."
Peter Crowley, Managing Director of Wave Leisure said: "We are honoured to be able to host the Seahaven Disability Games within Wave Leisure. This is a further demonstration of our commitment to bring physical activity to all corners of our community and ensures that participation happens in a fun and enjoyable way."
