South African hotel unveils new spa
The Saxon Hotel, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, has released details of its newly-built 700sq m (7,535sq ft), two-storey Spa.
The spa aims to be an “oasis of wellness, taking the guest on a holistic journey incorporating sound, touch and sight, blending modern understanding with ancient techniques to balance energies and restore wellbeing” and includes eight new treatment rooms.
On offer are an all-glass couples’ treatment room, manicure and pedicure areas, a hair spa, a sleep zone, a spa dining area and a juice bar. In addition, Saxon Spa has a steam room, heated hydro pool, wet treatment zone, hammam centre, heated outdoor plunge pool, sauna and outdoor treatment zone.
Saxon Spa was designed by interior designer Stephen Falcke and utilises dark wood, copper, linen and water features. Himalayan salt is also used throughout, and each treatment room has been ionised by a locally handcrafted Himalayan salt and recycled glass chandelier, created by a local conservation and sustainability project. The sauna also has three walls constructed entirely from salt.
The upper level of the spa features a pedicure area with treatments from Margaret Dabbs, as well as the sleep zone, which is stocked with relaxing teas and nutritious snacks, and a hair spa, which offers cocooning treatments, including a caviar hair mask.
The lower level is themed around hydro-based therapies and houses the wet treatment room – which offers Rasul mud treatments – a floatation pod, unisex steam room, Himalayan salt sauna, heated outdoor plunge pool, heated hydro pool, hammam centre and a cold plunge pool for Kneipp therapy.
The spa uses Swiss skincare company La Prairie, German medicosmetics manufacturer QMS, British skincare brand Elemis and body oils from Thailand-based Harnn.
