Viceroy to open bohemian San Francisco hotel
The Viceroy Hotel Group will open a “mischievous, provocative and rebellious” hotel in San Francisco which is designed to celebrate the city’s tradition of counter culture.
Hotel Zeppelin will be located in a renovated hotel building near the city’s Union Square when it opens in Q1 2016.
Seattle studio Dawson Design Associates have been appointed to design the interiors, which Viceroy said will “foster innovation, collaboration and an inspirational experience unlike anything else offered in San Francisco.”
The 196-room hotel will feature colourful ceiling and wall illustrations, posters and custom-made furnishings which draw inspiration from the artists, writers, poets and musicians who have worked in San Francisco. Rooms will be equipped with vintage turntables on which guests can play vinyl records.
In addition to the guestrooms, Hotel Zeppelin will have 3,000sq ft (278sq m) of events space, a games lounge and a café curated by the Mexican Rock and Roll-themed Bulldog Coffee
“Hotel Zeppelin reflects the creative, rebellious and sometimes subversive spirit that is the vanguard of our guests,” said Antonio Flores, GM of Hotel Zeppelin. “It will become a destination that attracts industry leaders, standout cultural tastemakers, and the disrupters who are defining the future.”
The hotel is owned by real estate developers the Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, which acquired the building in early 2015.
Dawson Design Associates have developed a reputation for their art-inspired hotel designs. They were recently involved in the development of a Hilton Curio hotel in Philadelphia described as an “art-inspired interpretation on modern luxury”.
Viceroy, meanwhile, have several high-profile projects in the pipeline; including the ongoing redevelopment of a UNESCO World Heritage site in Columbia as a resort.
