SDDC launches sports strategy consultation
South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC) has unveiled a 12-week consultation to enable local residents to comment on a new framework designed to improve fitness levels and boost participation.
The new sport and health strategy outlines South Derbyshire Sport's main aims and objectives for a five-year period between 2011 and 2016, which include an expansion of walking, cycling and swimming activities. Increased cultural provision, the delivery of Village Games community events and the creation of activity groups are also among the targets set out in the new framework, along with more opportunities for disabled people.
SDDC's John Lemmon, who chairs South Derbyshire Sport, said: "With London 2012 providing a huge opportunity for our residents to benefit from the systems and structures set up for volunteering, sporting legacy and performance structure, this is an exciting time for the district."
