Rugby leisure centre opening postponed
The new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby, Warwickshire, will now open its doors in August, two months later than initially planned.
The original opening date of early July had to be pushed back to August 31 following the cold weather in the United Kingdom between Christmas and Easter.
The new leisure centre, replaces the 40-year-old Ken Marriott Leisure Centre that had become outdated. Facilities include a fitness suite twice the size of its predecessor, a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, a studio pool with moveable floor, a six-court sports hall, a coffee shop and a crèche as well as spaces for dance classes, martial arts and children's parties.
Not for profit distributing co-operative, Greenwich Leisure Limited, will operate the site under the brand 'Better'. GLL are providing gym facilities at the neighbouring Thornfield Indoor Bowl Club during the construction.
A new access route to the main entrance will also be in use when the centre finally opens its doors to the public. Despite the delay, the construction still remains on budget.
