Royal visit for leisure centre after £3m investment
H.R.H Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh has officially opened the Kensington Leisure Centre after a major extension and refurbishment programme.
One of 41 leisure centres managed by CCL, a division of Clear Channel Entertainment's Leisure Group, the centre has recently undergone a £3m rebuild and improvement programme.
The redevelopment includes a redesigned swimming pool which now boasts a moveable floor and boom, allowing the pool to be split into two smaller pools, a new multi-activity sports hall, new changing rooms for dry sports and improved changing facilities for swimmers. Other improvements include a multi-use Club Room for training events and seminars, consultation and therapy rooms, a café with internet facilities, a new First Aid room and an enlarged creche.
The plans to upgrade facilities were conceived in 1996. Sport England donated £1.5m towards the scheme with The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and CCL meeting the balance. Details: +44 (0)20 7727 9747
