Royal Caribbean secures Xiamen 'relationship'
Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is to operate and market 21 sailings from Xiamen next year as part of a deal with the municipal government and China World Cruises (CWC).
The new "strategic relationship" will see CWC - a wholly-owned subsidiary of theme park group Shan-Hai-Shu - charter Legend of the Seas for a total of four months. RCI will run three- to eight-night sailings from Xiamen - in addition to Hong Kong, Tianjin and Shanghai - to ports of call in Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.
Xiamen Municipal Government is backing the venture as part of efforts to establish the city as China's fourth RCI cruise home port, while RCI is continuing its growth in the region. Legend of the Seas is a 1,804 double occupancy ship with a fitness centre, a day spa, a Solarium indoor pool and an extensive number of dining options.
