Rotherham council seeks planning for YES! complex
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and developer Oak Holdings have today (31 January) submitted an outline planning application for the £300m YES! entertainment resort development in Yorkshire.
The 320-acre scheme, billed as the largest indoor leisure and tourism destination in Europe, will boast more than a million sq ft of leisure facilities including a theatre complex, extreme sports centre, indoor entertainment facilities, four-star resort hotel with a spa and conference centre, an exhibition centre, a golf range and numerous bars, restaurants and cafés.
The development is expected to create around 2,700 new jobs in the area.
Clear Channel Entertainment is expected to operate the theatre complex while Venture Xtreme UK – the company set up by Steve Jones, owner of climbing wall manufacturer Entre-Prises UK – will create an indoor and outdoor extreme pursuits sports facility with an Olympic-standard canoe slalom course.
The Baydrive Group, promoter of TopGolf, will open and operate the driving range.
The developers are still currently seeking a hotel operator, but are understood to be in negotiations with a number of global brands.
The YES! development, adjoining the Rother Valley Country Park in Rotherham, has been designed by a joint venture of CZWG and Holder Mathias.
Subject to planning, the developers aim to start work in spring 2006 with completion in 2009.
