River Park expands exercise classes
DC Leisure-managed River Park Leisure Centre plans to take exercise classes to schools and youth clubs throughout Winchester.
The groove fx group exercise class was developed by training company fitness fx in association with youth fitness specialists SHOKK. It will be rolled out to the city’s young people using a sponsored Ford StreetKa donated by local dealership Gowrings Ford of Basingstoke. River Park’s youth fitness co-ordinator, Caroline Gorton will be using the StreetKa to visit schools all over the city.
The project is supported by Winchester City Council as part of its plans to get more children active.
“The most rewarding aspect of this project is to genuinely be able to outreach into the community,” says the centre’s sales & marketing manager, Catherine Jackson. “As an industry we often talk about visiting schools and helping children to enjoy getting into fitness and with this class it’s easy for schools to programme in to the curriculum. The moves are easy-to-follow and the children know the songs like Justin and Beyonce so it gets them exercising whilst their having a good time. And for the teachers the hassle is taken out of their lesson plans.”
