Riders caught on Mumbo Jumbo
Two riders aboard the Mumbo Jumbo roller coaster at North Yorkshire's Flamingo Land theme park were left hanging upside down for 20 minutes on Bank Holiday Monday when the car they were travelling in got stuck 50ft (15.2m) up in the air.
An item of clothing got jammed in the car's mechanism, leaving the pair stranded before being rescued by park staff. Elliot Richards, park executive, said: "'As a result of these circumstances, Flamingo Land implemented its evacuation and rescue procedure.
"All riders were successfully evacuated without injury in quick succession." He added that an inspection had revealed that there was no fault with the ride and that the incident had been caused by clothing getting trapped in its mechanism.
The £4m, 98ft-tall (30m) ride, located in the park's Lost Kingdom Reserve and built by S&S Power, opened last July. With passengers experiencing forces in excess of 4Gs, Mumbo Jumbo - said to be the 'world's steepest steel built roller coaster' - plunges down an overhang of 112˚ at speeds of around 20mph (32kph) and includes two complete inversions.
