It was the first time that the previously separate property awards – leisure and retail – were joined to form the new awards.

The awards ceremony, organised in association with the Leisure Property Forum, took take place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 25 June.

The winners for the 16 categories were selected from 81 finalists and received their awards from comedian, Rory Bremner.

Among the winners were Castlemore, which took the best retail park award for its £60m Castlepoint centre in Bournemouth.

In other categories, Amida Hampton Racquets & Fitness took the award for best single-use leisure scheme and Shelley Sandzer was named the best leisure consultancy team.

The leisure operator of the year award went to Whitbread, while McDonald’s received the award for the most innovative new shop/store for its Oxford Street restaurant.

Other winners also included the English Institute of Sport, which was named best public sector funded leisure project; and the Festival Park in Mallorca, which took the award for best mixed-use leisure scheme of the year.

Around 1,200 senior property figures attended the event, which included awards for best public sector-funded leisure development, best leisure regeneration project, best single-use leisure scheme, leisure operator of the year and best leisure consultancy team.

After the presentations, guests were able to watch live coverage of the Euro 2004 quarter-finals, the day’s main matches at Wimbledon and highlights of the European canoeing and shooting championships.
