Record-breaking Wynn Las Vegas opens
The newest addition to the Las Vegas strip, the US$2.7bn (£1.4bn, 2.1bn euros) Wynn Las Vegas, has opened to guests.
The casino hotel, claimed to be the most expensive ever built in the city, boasts 2,359 standard guest rooms, 270 salon suites and 45 executive suites as well as 42 private villas in the grounds of the resort's 18-hole championship golf course.
Facilities include 111,000sq ft (10,300sq m) of gaming space with 137 tables, 1,960 slot machines and three separate gaming salons.
There are also 18 restaurants and bars, 76,000sq ft (7,000sq m) of retail space and 223,000sq ft (20,700sq m) of convention and meeting space.
There will also be a 2,087 capacity theatre which includes a one million gallon performance pool which doubles as a stage.
The hotel is partly hidden from the Las Vegas Strip by a 130m man-made mountain which rises to the height of seven stories and includes pine trees and other landscaping.
"This hotel represents a sea change. It is a reversal of the Las Vegas historical perspective and that is why it cost so much to build," said Wynn.
Around 10,000 people visited the resort on opening night after waiting hours to get in.
Wynn Las Vegas took five years to build and is the fourth resort development for Steve Wynn, the chief executive of Wynn Resorts.
His previous projects included the Mirage, Treasure Island and Bellagio hotels, which he sold to MGM for US$6.4bn (£3.3bn, 4.9bn euros) in 2000.
