Rain never stops play at YCCC thanks to new lighting
New high-quality dimmable lighting from Philips makes the nets below Headingley’s New East Stand available for practise 24 x 365.
Home to test cricket since 1899, when Yorkshire’s cricketers are not in the nets the area is available for social functions.
Lighting the area was challenging because of its curved ceiling and the light level needed for practise being relatively high.
Philips Sportshall low-glare luminaires solved the problem, with 70 FCH475 luminaires, each fitted with four 55W PL-L single-ended fluorescent lamps, providing a uniform 1500 lux over the area.
The luminaires have regulating ballasts and are therefore dimmable, with a simple slide switch enabling the lighting to be reduced to as little as 300 lux for social occasions.
