REPs to launch new awareness campaign
More than 2,000 clubs and leisure centres are to receive a special Register of Exercise Professionals’ (REPs) plaque and referral leaflets as part of a massive awareness campaign.
Following the success of last year’s drive to raise the profile of the Register among members of the public, 6,000 members will also be given leaflets to distribute to their clients.
The campaign message encourages both REPs members and those who employ them to promote their membership as not only a verification of their qualifications but also as a guarantee of their professional commitment to the safety and well-being of their clients.
REPs research shows that operators and members are keen to see a higher level of promotion of the Register to consumers.
Registrar Cliff Collins said: “Last year’s campaign achieved above and beyond what we expected in terms of publicity and members of the public logging on to check out their instructor’s qualification. Nearly 12 months on we are still getting on average 1,000 hits a day to do just that.
“The message is out there that REPs membership not only means that instructors are fully-qualified but that they also have current insurance, are committed to an on-going learning process and career progression and that they take their working responsibilities seriously.
“We will be advising members of the public to look out for clearly displayed REPs’ plaques and encouraging them to ask any instructor they work-out with about their current membership status.”
In addition, a national REPs Awareness Day is scheduled for the first week in February to kick-start a publicity drive for the Register.
