Quinlan creates Maybourne Hotel Group following sale of Savoy
Following its £240m sale of The Savoy hotel this month, its former owner, Quinlan Private, has announced plans to dissolve the Savoy Group and form a new ‘super-luxury’ hotel company, the Maybourne Hotel Group.
The group will initially consist of the properties which were formally owned and managed by the Savoy Group – The Berkeley, Claridge’s and The Connaught – but Quinlan is now actively seeking other global acquisitions.
The company has also unveiled plans for a refurbishment of The Connaught and The Berkeley.
The Connaught will see the introduction of 35 new suites and a health spa, while architect Lord Rogers has been retained for a redevelopment of the Berkeley. His plans will be announced later this year.
The new group will be lead by former executive vice-president of the Savoy Group, Geraldine McKenna, who becomes Maybourne’s chief executive.
“This is the start of a new era with the creation of a world-class hotel company,” she said. “Each of our uniquely individual hotels was founded in Mayfair and our reputation for crafting luxury experiences was built in Mayfair. I believe that Maybourne reflects in every sense the origin of the new hotel company.”
