Public consultation begins on £7m Wyre wellness plans
Wyre Council has begun a public consultation into plans to redevelop two of the borough's leisure centres.
Wyre residents are being invited to have their say on innovative plans to upgrade Poulton and Thornton Leisure Centres.
In September, Wyre Council announced plans to invest over £7m in leisure services as part of a programme of work that is set to significantly improve and modernise facilities across the borough.
The improvements will include the creation of an extreme sports facility at Thornton Leisure Centre, a luxury day spa facility and dance studio at Poulton Leisure Centre and an upgraded centre and new swimming pool at Garstang leisure centre.
The council has earmarked £3.4m for the work at Thornton and a further £1.7m for Poulton - with the rest being spent on Garstang.
The plans follow a comprehensive review of leisure provision, which recommended wide-ranging improvements to the three centres.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Cabinet member with responsibility for sport and leisure at the council said: "From the outset, we've listened carefully to what residents have to say about sport and leisure in Wyre and these proposals are a direct result of that.
"It's essential that our investment reflects the needs of the communities who will be using the centres, so I would urge people to look at the proposals and tell us what they think."
Consultants Max Associates, who undertook the review of leisure services, will be engaged to assist the council in taking the scheme forward. (To download and read the full report on the leisure proposals, click here).
