Protection for Howardian Hills proposed
The North York Moors National Park Authority and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) have teamed up to protect the Hambleton and Howardian Hills.
The proposals include restoring ancient woodland sites, creating an apprenticeship programme and developing new walking and cycling trails.
The project is being driven by the Cultural and Natural Development Opportunity Partnership (CAN DO), which includes the authority, AONB, Natural England, Forestry Commission, Environment Agency, English Heritage and National Trust.
Drop-in public consultation sessions are being held at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre from 17 March.
Lyn Mansfield, coordinator of CAN DO, said: “In the autumn a bid will be submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), which could fund a range of projects to enhance the landscape and heritage of the area.
“We are also asking people to tell us which aspects of the area’s heritage they particularly value and what improvements to the landscape would benefit their communities most. And if there are projects, training or volunteering opportunities they would like to get involved in.” Details: www.moors.net.uk
