Port house plans World of Wine museum and dining destination
The Fladgate Partnership, the company behind a number of brands of port, is building a wine-inspired visitor attraction in Porto, Portugal.
Several different museum elements will come together to create the World of Wine destination, which will also have a strong food presence with multiple restaurants and a wine school. It’s expected to cost in the region of €100m (US$109m, £90m), though some funding may be sought from the EU’s regeneration programmes.
The proposed site is already owned by Fladgate, owners of Taylors, Croft, Fonesca and Krohn ports, and is located in Vila Nova de Gaia near the group’s Yeatman hotel.
Fladgate CEO Adrian Bridge has been reported as saying he expects World of Wine to attract 1 million visitors per year, and that the venue will offer a museum about Porto, one about the cork industry and one about fashion and design.
