Plans submitted for £10m Ingleby Barwick Leisure Centre
A planning application has been submitted for a £10m leisure centre and community hub in Ingleby Barwick, Stockton-on-Tees.
Designed by Ellis Williams Architects, the centre will house a 25m swimming pool, learner pool and a health club featuring a large gym floor, fitness suite and group exercise studios.
Plans also a include a soft play area, a community library and a customer service point.
Subject to planning approval, work is expected to start on site next year, with the building opening to the public in 2018.
Once completed, the facility will be operated by Tees Active Leisure, which already operates fitness and leisure venues in the Borough on behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council (STBC).
Bob Cook, leader of STBC, said: “The submission of the planning application is a really important milestone in the development of the facility.
“The application reflects the views we received from residents during the consultation process, which have really helped to inform the design and layout of the building.
“We’ve been working closely with the All Saints CE Academy and the Diocese of York on this project and we’re looking forward to continuing that relationship as we look to move forward with a fantastic facility for the residents of Ingleby Barwick and the wider Borough.”
