Plans for £55m golf resort unveiled
The team behind a new £55m golf resort is hoping the project could establish Angus as one of Scotland's foremost tourist destinations.
Plans for the development in the village of Wellbank include an 18-hole Darren Clarke signature golf course, Scotland's first golf youth academy and a five-star hotel and spa, as well as a housing development along the course edge. The course will be designed by renowned architect, Graeme Webster, while the Five Star Junior Golf Academy will be headed by Tiger Woods' first coach, Rudy Duran, alongside David Gosling, creator of the Young Masters Golf programme.
Mike Forbes, the man behind the scheme, said: "We believe that in addition to the obvious benefits to Angus, this development will significantly enhance the area, which is largely agricultural, and provide Wellbank residents as well as visitors with outstanding facilities. "Part of our plans could include road improvements, a network of footpaths to open up the currently inaccessible agricultural land and even investment in the local school. We are now at the stage where we can start to consult with the community over the plans."
Forbes, a local entrepreneur, has previously developed a similar resort in Dundee, called Forbes of Kingennie.
