Plans for £15m Sandwell leisure centre on display
Plans for a £15m health, wellbeing and leisure centre in Sandwell in the West Midlands have been put on public display.
The 3D plans – to be shown at centres around the area – display Sandwell Metropolitan District Council’s ideas for the project, which include a sports hall, a hydrotherapy pool, a gym and weight area, a dance studio, a climbing wall and floodlit five-a-side pitches.
The Portway Lifestyle Centre, which will replace the existing Oldbury Leisure Centre, will also be home to a new doctors’ surgery.
Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for adult services and health, Darren Cooper, said: “This project will bring major benefits to the people of Sandwell and delivers on promises made by adult services and health to people with disabilities in the borough.”
Funding will come from the government and a partnership between Sandwell Council, Sandwell Leisure Trust, Sandwell Primary Care Trust and Sandwell Local Improvement Finance Trust.
The centre is scheduled to open in 2011.
