Plans for Edinburgh International unveiled
A £30m overhaul of the Royal Highland Centre and an International Business Gateway - to include a hotel and conference facilities - will form part of a major new project for Scotland.
The area surrounding Edinburgh Airport - now branded Edinburgh International - hopes to create a global hub for international business and generate £4.4bn for Scotland's economy. Plans to overhaul the Royal Highland Centre have already been given the green light and are expected to build on the venue's existing economic impact worth around £250m a year.
Meanwhile, the International Business Gateway will be built on land between the airport and the RBS headquarters, with the potential for a multi-use venue/arena. City of Edinburgh Council convener of economic development Tom Buchanan said: "This implementation plan is the first step towards realising our vision for Edinburgh International."
