Plans for Alabany aquarium revealed
Plans for an aquarium as part of a US$220m (£144m, €169m) in Albany, New York, have been revealed with estimates saying it could bring in up to 600,000 visitors a year.
The plans, drawn up by Omni Development, feature an aquarium, IMAX cinema and science museum on a plot of land reserved for a convention centre project.
Previous plans have also resurfaced from 1997, which pitched building an Albany aquarium on the city's riverfront at a more modest US$30m (£19.7m, €23m).
Omni has used the Tennesee Aquarium, based in Chattanooga as a model for what the Albany aquarium could deliver.
The predicted economic impact could bring as much as US$77.4m (£50.9m, €59.4m) a year into the Albany economy while aquariums have previously demonstrated a long-term capacity to draw people from surrounding communities.
