Pilates providers forge alliance
Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ), a British accrediting body, has forged an alliance with the Council for the Pilates Method (CPM) and other major training providers – such as Polestar Pilates and the Alan Herdman Studio – in an effort to unite the industry and develop a national standard for pilates teachers.
CYQ's director of qualifications, Rosi Prescott, says: "By the end of 2003, there should be some national qualifications available for pilates teachers. These will help to provide the public and employers with the security of knowing that teachers have been certificated to a national standard."
Earlier this year, Body Control Pilates (BCP), the Pilates Foundation and the Pilates Institute formed the Council for the Pilates Method (CPM), with a view to raising standards in the discipline. According to Prescott this move now enables more providers to be part of the initial raising of standards.
